It was fanboy madness in the US yesterday when the annual Comic-Con
International convention was staged in San Diego, with 125,000 comic book
devotees coming face-to-face with star hotties such as Scarlett Johansson and
Cameron Diaz.
A little more than a decade ago, the Hollywood movie studios sniffed out the
potential of Comic-Con to create buzz for their sci-fi and action movies.
If the geeks aren’t impressed by a studio’s new $246 million (Australian)
sci-fi film, it will be beaten up by blogs so badly during Comic-Con that when
it eventually lands in theaters it is dead on arrival.
